  • How to Cut Your Jeans

    How to Cut Your Jeans

You’ve cleaned out your closet, your car, your garage, your fridge… but maybe it’s time to re-purpose some things. How about that pair of jeans in your closet that are maybe too long, or just need a fresh update. I personally love when jeans hit right above the ankle bone. I find the length flattering and easy to wear with most shoe options. With a few easy steps you will have a fabulous “new” pair of jeans in no time! Before we begin – try on your jeans and mark with a safety pin where you would like them to end. I like to give myself 1/4″ leeway – you can always cut shorter, but you can’t add the length back on! The jeans will fray a bit so allow some room for that as well. Let’s get started…

    1. Mark the jeans with chalk in a straight line.
    2. Fold the jeans in half and cut the top leg first.
    3. Using the top as a guide cut the bottom leg.

I always try on the jeans again so make sure I like the length. Just that little bit of ankle will make these more flattering for me. Next step is to pop them in the wash & then dry.

Post wash – you may notice extra fray. You can either trim it or leave it as is. For extra fray at the bottom pull on the white strings to release more of the hem.

Once dried they are ready to wear! There are a few other techniques to try: maybe a “chewed” hem which is achieved by cutting small cuts perpendicular to the hem OR a high/lo hem by cutting a diagonal line from the front to the back. The options are endless, just try not to get to scissor happy.

  • Denim Spotlight: Liverpool Los Angeles

    Denim Spotlight: Liverpool Los Angeles

I’m hesitant to share this, because, well let’s just agree that my blog photography has come a long way, I tried my very first pair of Liverpool Jeans. You can see the post here. Even back then when it was pretty much just my mom that followed me, I remember people going nuts over these jeans for good reason. Why, you ask? You guys – some of their styles are PULL-ON, which means no buttons and a little give. Perfect for date nights out that include cheeseburgers or that little thing called pregnancy (in the early stages) and most definitely postpartum (even 4 years later).

I took two styles with me on a recent trip to the beach and when it comes down to it, it’s just one of those brands that you have to try. Liverpool was so excited to have me share their styles with you that they are offering Motherchic readers 25% off your first purchase with code: LINDSEY25.

Liverpool has also come a long way since I first discovered them. Although some styles have a visible panel, the pair I’m wearing you can hardly tell they are pull-on. They just look like your regular old jeans, but in reality are a pull-on/5-pocket hybrid.

And the skirt is hands down one of the best denim skirts I’ve ever worn. I find denim skirts to be tricky because the front button always sticks out. Well, when you take the button away and make it a pull-on, problem solved! Liverpool is dedicated to selling products that have amazing fit and you really can’t deny the comfort of this denim.

  • 3 Dresses That Keep Up With Mom Life

3 Dresses That Keep Up With Mom Life

This past weekend, I clocked approximately 8 sporting events between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening. At one point, I walked over 7,000 steps without ever leaving the baseball complex. It was then I had a revelation: If I’m going to be living my life at the field, I might as well wear a dress that acts like activewear… but looks like I made an effort.

Zella is Nordstrom’s in-house activewear line that never misses. Think amazing quality, mom-approved price point, and pieces that work as hard as you do. I put three Zella dresses to the test this weekend, and spoiler alert: they passed with flying colors (and coffee spills).

    1.Ultrasoft Knit Quarter Zip Dress

This dress is giving “tennis-core meets errand-running realness.” It has that polished, preppy look with the comfort of your favorite sweatshirt. The collar and half zip add structure, while the drawstring waist keeps it flattering. Pairs perfectly with sandals or sneakers. Bonus points for being cute enough to grab a bite post-game (even if it’s just Wawa).

      2.The Ultra Soft Tank Dress

A throw-on-and-go option for the days when you’re running out the door yelling, “Where’s your water bottle?!” This one is breezy, flattering, and has a lived-in softness that makes it feel like an old favorite. I paired it with a sunhat and slides to give the illusion of being pulled together.

      3.The Day Out Dress

This dress is equal parts sporty and sleek. The tie waist gives it a flattering fit, and the performance fabric makes it ready for whatever the day throws at you (bleacher sweat or surprise rain showers included). It’s the lightest-weight option of the three dresses and has a racer back so pairs best with a sports bra.

These Zella dresses from Nordstrom are made for movement, but stylish enough for real life—which is exactly what we need this time of year.

    1. Spring Break with Nordstrom

      Spring Break with Nordstrom

Ah, Florida – where every visit feels like a flirtation with the idea of relocation. I mean, who wouldn’t want to permanently reside in a state where it’s practically mandatory to have a pool of dopamine in your backyard? Days blur into a surreal haze of carefree bliss, and suddenly, the concept of time is virtually non-existent? And then my rational side kicks in, reminding me of the beautiful life waiting for me back in Pennsylvania, making these Floridian escapades all the more precious.

It’s the classic Northern mantra: “We have real seasons, so we appreciate vacations more!” Who is to say whether that’s just self-soothing or a genuine truth? Either way, I just traveled to Longboat Key, where I packed 49.5 pounds of vacation-worthy ensembles from Nordstrom – because what better place to test-drive spring break fashion than an actual spring break destination?

Based on my extensive “research” (read: lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand), I’ve curated a list of must-have pieces for your warm-weather getaway.

I’m a bikini girl, but I fell in love with this Robin Piconne one-piece suit. The snap detail gives it more of bodysuit vibe which makes it pair perfectly with flowy beach pants. With spring break being earlier for most this year, it can be chilly at the beach and I love a great pair of beach pants to wear in place of a traditional coverup.

This Eric Javitts visor is a total splurge, but it stands the test of time. I’ve purchased many straw head-wear pieces over the years only to have them loose shape from salt-air and suitcases. This visor is virtually indescructable.

The jumpsuit is another great non-traditional coverup that you should definitely pack for your next trip. It’s a versatile piece that you can wear to the beach and pool, but is also perfect to wear to get coffee or breakfast in the morning. It’s lightweight and loose fitting and I love the open back detail. And yes, it has pockets!

As for the shoes, I think it’s safe to say I’ve entered my its-all-about-comfort era: J/Slides for the win. Oh, and bright pink so when you flick them off and frolick to the water’s edge, you always know where to find them.

    2. What I Wore on Vacation

      What I Wore on Vacation

First, huge shout out to my parents who accidentally told all of their daughters we could bring our families for spring break. We made it work, but wow that was a lot of mouths to feed. They do it with grace, don’t flinch at the mess (too much at least), and taught me a pretty big parenting hack… give them a beach, and they will come. I kid, I kid, we would come no matter where they live, but those views certainly do help. I shared a lot about our trip to Longboat Key, Florida. I got in little bit of trouble for spilling the beans about this magical place. Apparently there are some people who don’t want the word to get out, but it’s a place I’ve been visiting since I was a kid and holds a very special place in my heart. I can’t help but to gush about this small town on the west coast. Maybe someday I’ll write an entire post on it, but for now…..outfits. Here is a round up of what I wore on our vacation to Florida.

      Dresses…

      Sporty looks….

      Cover ups….

      Swim…

    3. Cold Weather Getaway: What To Pack

Cold Weather Getaway: What To Pack

Taking a vacation is one of my favorite things to do. Packing…eh, not so much. And I can’t be alone in this. Don’t we all just want someone to pack for us? But when it comes to packing for a cold weather getaway I like to think I know a few things. Living in the Northeast winters can be colder than cold. Layers are key and give me all things fleece lined. If you are headed on a cold weather getaway check out a few things that must make it in your suitcase!

      Cicy Bell Ski Suit

Base layers are key, but what’s on top is also very important! This one piece ski suit is warm, functional and fashionable!

C.C Cable Knit Fleece Lined Hat

If you know this hat then you know it’s a personal favorite. The fleece lining keeps the warmth in and the bright color helps to spot you on the slopes!

      Sorel Kinetic Breakthru Caribou Boot

Sorel boots are synonymous with warmth! And a great pair of warm and waterproof boots are a must for a cold weather getaway. This pair is lined with cozy, insulated microfleece, and have all-terrain rugged soles that grip. Oh and of course their chic!

    4. What to Pack: Nashville

      What to Pack: Nashville

Nashville. Charleston, NOLA, were just a few of the cool destinations that topped your request lists. And when I think of these places one word comes to mind: FUN! Okay a lot of other words come to mind, but I feel like what goes in your suitcase for this sort of trip should evoke smiles. Sunshine yellows, lots of prints, and bright white kicks! So if you headed somewhere with some southern charm here are a few things I would recommend packing….

      Fields of Happy Floral Dress

The name really says it all! This happy dress can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with sneakers and a denim jacket. It is the perfect dress for a night of dancing.

      Jane White Denim Short

I love living on the edge during vacation and wearing white! If you decide to pack these make sure you also bring along your trusty bleach pen.

When Life Gives you Lemons Tote

It’s hard not to smile when holding this bag – and it’s perfect for an impromptu picnic in the park.

    5. What to Pack: Wine Tasting

      What to Pack: Wine Tasting

If you are a wine lover, like myself, then a wine tasting trip is a trip of a lifetime. Packing for full day of wine hopping, sightseeing, shopping, exploring, might be daunting, but luckily this is one place I have been and I am here to help. You may have heard terms like “wine country casual” or “Napa Valley chic”…. there really are no rules, but with scenic views you may want to be photo ready. You will see looks ranging from jeans and cute blouses to easy, stylish dresses. One piece of advice: Don’t forget layers. The days are warm, but can quickly get chilly at night. When you are in wine country, most of the time is spent outdoors which means it’s important to pack a hat, a cool pair of sunnies and sunscreen. Check out our take on what to pack for your wine tasting trip….

      The Drop Tiered Maxi Dress

An easy, breezy comfortable dress is a must for wine tasting. A tired maxi is lightweight but looks chic with a cardigan or denim jacket when the temps get chilly.

      Hat Attack Tote

Make sure to have a lightweight bag on hand for your day of wine tasting. You will want to pack some sunscreen, maybe a hat and have room for any wine you want to take home! Bonus: this bag is also a cooler!

      Sorel Ella Sandal

A comfortable and walkable sandal is essential when packing for your wine tasting trip. Because let’s face it, there will be wine and it needs tasting!

    6. What To Pack : Las Vegas

What To Pack : Las Vegas

I have been lucky to travel to some amazing places, but one place I have never been to is Las Vegas. Just thinking about going to Vegas sounds like it HAS to be fun. The night life, the shows, the shopping, poolside parties… the people watching. With the endless activities Las Vegas has to offer, packing can be tricky. As I sit at my desk staring at all of the snow through my window, I am going to daydream about taking a trip to Las Vegas and all of the chic and fabulous outfits I would wear in case a trip there happens to fall in my lap. Our take on what to pack for your trip to Las Vegas awaits….

      LBLC The Label Dress

A great dress is definitely a staple for a trip to Vegas. I love a LBD and this one should wrap dress is so chic!

      Norma Kamali Jogger Pants

You will want to include a stylish pair of pants for those places that don’t allow denim. This jogger pant is perfect for dressing up or down!

      J.Crew Denim Shorts

Now we can talk denim! Denim shorts are ideal in the warm Vegas temps if you are poolside or perusing all the shops and sites to see on the strip!

    7. What to Pack: Sightseeing

      What to Pack: Sightseeing

The vacation is booked! Woohoo! Now it’s time to figure out what to pack. Sometimes narrowing down what outfits make it in the suitcase can be tough no matter where I am headed. From the bustling streets of DC to the steep hills of San Francisco – if you are going on a sightseeing trip there are a few essentials to pack. I like to keep a clean and minimalist approach when recommending items for this type of travel. Neutral basics with a few pop items and easy layers create versatility for outfitting. Other important items range from great a walking shoe to a chic bag that can hold the essentials and be worn multiple ways. We need our hands free to take all of the pictures! Be sure to save room for that one and done dress. A dress that can be worn while strolling the streets and then take you straight to dinner. A fun printed bandana can be used as a scarf, headband, or belt! Be creative! Packing for this type of trip is all about ease. Check out more essentials to consider for your upcoming sightseeing getaway….

      LONDON FOG SNEAKERS

This may just be the cutest slip on shoe I’ve ever seen. Just try to order only one color. Lots of reviews recommending to size up.

      THINKROLYN BAG

An easy cross body bag (with a fun strap) is essential for travel. This brand just happens to be a favorite of mine.

      TREASURE & BOND BLOUSE

A chic and simple blouse can really go a long way. Pairs easily with denim and provides the perfect canvas for pop accessories.
